Some furniture comes from a factory. This comes from a barn.

Scott Mueller Woodworks operates out of a loft workshop in Richmond, Missouri — a small town on the Missouri River floodplain, about an hour northeast of Kansas City. It's a working space: sawdust on the floor, a lathe that runs most evenings, wood stacked and sorted by species along the walls.

Scott has spent years studying the techniques of segmented woodturning — a discipline that involves cutting hardwood into precise geometric pieces and assembling them into forms that couldn't exist any other way. It's part joinery, part geometry, part stubbornness.

The Bloodwood & Canary Collection came out of a simple question: what happens when you take the most visually dramatic hardwoods you can source and build lighting around them? Bloodwood — a dense, arterial red tropical hardwood — turned out to be the answer. Paired with the warm gold of Canary Wood, the results speak for themselves.

Every fixture is made by hand, one at a time. There is no production line. There is no overseas manufacturing. When you order, Scott builds it.

The epoxy finish — something Scott spent considerable time perfecting — gives the wood a depth that photographs can't fully capture. In person, the grain appears to be lit from within rather than reflected from the surface. That's not an accident. It's the result of multiple coats, hand-leveled between passes, until the surface is exactly right.

These are not mass-market light fixtures. They are objects made to last, designed to be the most interesting thing in the room, and built by someone who would be embarrassed to ship anything less.
